With the various ways sports fans consume content, the ways that content can be created is also expanding, predominantly on social media. Aside from professional analysis and expert opinions, football has various different channels and types of content to be consumed. Jack McCarthy, an online personality in the sporting world, spoke about why online football content is on the rise and what it brings to the sport. “Content and media is so important as it gets the most views and most coverage, social media is the best way to promote football events and products. It’s only going to grow more and more,” said Jack. For how easy and simple the content can be, Jack has accumulated 100s of millions of views across his TikTok page, where he talks about the latest news regarding football, which has led to him working with different football related brands and has grown a community that enjoy his content enough to make it Jacks job, as he stream regularly on twitch. Jack alone posts football content on numerous different platforms, from Tiktok and twitter to YouTube and twitch, all of which require different formats of media to portray the content. These different types of content are a breath of fresh air in comparison to that of Sky or BT for example, as channels and pages such as jacks are made by ordinary people, who can say and do whatever they please, as opposed to that of huge companies who may be restricted. With this, comes a more relatable type of content that is easier to consume, which is what may be so enticing to the audiences that have reached jacks content. However, although Jack has flourished with the success of his career so far, there are still negatives surrounding these new forms of media. “By doing social media you have to accept there is always going to be negativity and hate, you just have to ignore them, not everyone is going to agree with you but that’s just life,” said Jack. With content surrounding sport and football constantly expanding, there is always going to be backlash and hate, but there is still room for excellence and success, with Jack being a key example of that.
