Football Is a Collectors Game

Many fans of the beautiful game are keen collectors of kits, either those of the team they

support, or of any team from around the globe. However, the collection of programmes from games visited is something fans may do without even noticing.

Football programmes contain a wide variety of things ranging from pictures from previous games, the squads of the two teams, reviewing previous games, previewing upcoming games and many more. One thing that match programmes do is show fans the games they have previously attended.

For some fans, collecting programmes isn’t just buying a programme at each game they attend, its getting them from any big game that might have happened a long time ago or from a team they have a soft spot for.

Not all programmes will be worth something when they are bought or at any time to some people but that doesn’t stop them from purchasing one at the games they attend as for some fans it is just part of the match day ritual and do it without realising.

Football teams recognise that these are seen by collector’s items and really play into this market by doing special things with the programmes they release to fans. One avid collector is Ben, who has collected a programme from every game he has been to and said “I didn’t even realise I had so many but its nice to look back at them from time to time” but acknowledged that there is people who have a far more impressive collection and “its something anyone can do” with most programmes being fairly cheap depending on the size of the game.

Despite being worthless now, your future relatives could sell your programmes on for a huge profit. However, its unlikely it will sell for as much as the 1882 FA Cup Final programme which sold for £35,250 back in 2013.

So, hold on to those programmes you have collected already and keep adding to it so you can one day show off your collection or just have something to remember your days of going to the football every weekend when you are older.

Football really is just more than a game, it’s a lifestyle with so many possibilities and memories to be made and remembered with all the memorabilia that has been collected by not just yourself, but by everybody across the globe.

Football is a collectors game.
